Policies & Terms

Thank you for your interest in a Hidden Hollow bird! We are grateful that you are considering us when searching for your next avian companion. We ask that you go over our listed policies below, and please don't hesitate to Contact Us with any questions.

Reserving Your Bird

To reserve an available baby or join one of our waitlists, we ask that you first fill out our Prospective Buyer's form, found here

Once we have reviewed your form, we will contact you via your selected method. If you've chosen a phone call, we will first contact you via email to schedule a 10-15 minute window for our chat (that way nobody ends up in a game of phone tag). If you select a text-based option (text message, email, etc.) please respond as soon as you are able, as no available birds are officially held for you until we receive a deposit (50% of the total purchase price, applicable if the bird is not yet weaned) or full payment (if the bird is ready to go). If you have placed a deposit on a baby, the remaining 50% payment is due in full once the baby is fully weaned.

A few important notes:

We reserve the right to refuse the sale of a bird to anyone, at anytime, for any reason.

DEPOSITS ARE 100% NON-REFUNDABLE. The ONLY time we will refund a deposit is if the sale agreement is terminated by Hidden Hollow due to circumstances outside the buyer's control

  • Example: if a bird becomes ill and needs to remain at the aviary for treatment rather than heading home on the scheduled date, we would offer the buyer the chance to exit the sales agreement and have their deposit refunded to them.

Once your bird is reserved, we are preparing that bird for your home. We will send you weekly updates with photos, start putting together their "Welcome Home" package, and we will of course be available to answer any questions you may have about bringing home your new baby. Once the bird is fully weaned, we will reach out to collect the final payment and schedule a Come Home date, and iron out any applicable details needed to facilitate that.

- If we are unable to reach you and do not hear from you or receive the final payment within 5 consecutive days of our initial contact, we reserve the right to cancel your reservation and retain your deposit. A courtesy message will be sent to the email address we have on file for you on Day 3, and on Day 5 a final one will be sent to confirm your reservation cancellation.

DNA & Health Testing

All babies will be DNA sexed and come with certificate, included in the bird's purchase price. We are a private/closed aviary with disease tested adults, and we work with the utmost care to ensure you are receiving a healthy, happy baby from strong and stable lines. However, parrots are incredibly sensitive animals that can be quickly and severely affected by many things in their environment. It is for that reason that once a bird leaves our hands, Hidden Hollow can no longer assume responsibility for illness or injury. *Please note that a slight elevation in gram-negative bacteria after shipping is normal and expected due to stress.

We always encourage pre-scheduling a New Bird wellness visit with an Avian Veterinarian so that you can be seen within 72 hours of receiving your bird. If any testing done in within those first 72 hours results in the discovery of a pre-existing, untreatable condition that significantly impacts the health and/or longevity of your bird, please reach out to us ASAP with a copy of the veterinary records so that they can be reviewed by us and our veterinarian. If the claim(s) are then verified, we will offer to take the bird back into our care; If returned to us in a timely manner, we will offer a refund equal to the purchase price, or equitable replacement, at our discretion. Hidden Hollow is not responsible for any veterinary fees incurred at any point by the buyer. This offer does not extend to any diagnoses that occur beyond the initial 72 hour period.

While I hate to consider these possibilities, these stipulations are in place to both protect you, the buyer, and to help me safeguard the genetic integrity of my lines. The information we request is vital so that we can perform a careful evaluation of any health anomalies and help ensure it does not reoccur.

Returns, Cancellations, & No Clipping Agreement

As is mentioned above, cancellations at any time and for any reason will result in the forfeiture of your deposit. If for any reason your bird is not a good fit in your family and/or household and you wish to return or re-home them, we do ask that you please contact us first so we may discuss either purchasing the bird back at a discounted rate, or how we may be able to help facilitate new, safe arrangements for the bird.

As part of our commitment to our birds' whole body health, we do request that prospective buyers acknowledge and agree to not clip, trim, or otherwise alter their bird's wings at all for at least their first year of life (though preferably never). If you missed it, please take a look at Why We Don't Clip (and you shouldn't, either).
